Writing Center
Grade Level(s): Preschool
By: Debbie Haren, preschool teacher

To provide opportunities for children to explore writing.

Objectives:

Materials:

  • an old telephone
  • small note pads
  • envelopes
  • pens and pencils
  • a piece of paper with the alphabet letters in capital and lower case.

Plan:

Provide a small table with all the materials. Explain to the children this is the writing center, and how it should be used.

  • They can play secretary and take phone calls and write messages for the people.
  • They can write letters to people and put them in the envelopes. etc.

It would be nice to also have a pretend mailbox so the kids can send out the mail. You could give one of the students be the mail carrier. Give him or her a small bag to deliver the mail to the other kids!
