Brown Bear Pudding Style!
Grade Level(s): Preschool, K
By: Michelle Kincaid

After reading the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", children will paint a bear with chocolate pudding!

Objectives:

To integrate literacy and gross motor skills to produce self-esteem through art work.

Materials:

Simple reproducible pattern of a bear.

Plan:

  1. Read the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" by Frog Street Press.
  2. Distribute a simple copy of a large brown bear and a small bowl of chocolate pudding. (The pudding packs you buy at the grocery store are just the right size!)
  3. Show the children how to use their fingers to paint the bear with the pudding.
  4. Then dip up what's left and eat it!

Comments:

I use a teddy bear theme with my preschoolers for the first day of preschool. Especially for 3 year olds, it is hard to come to a new place where nothing seems familiar. So we have a teddy bear picnic where the children bring their own teddy bear or stuffed animal from home. This gives them comfort and makes the first day of preschool a little more "bear"-able! This is just one thing that we do during the morning.
