The Lifesaver Descriptive Writing Lesson
Grade Level(s): 3-5
By: Gina, 5th Grade Teacher

Students use descriptive writing and explore their senses while eating a Lifesaver.

Materials:

  • Individually wrapped lifesavers

Plan:

  1. Students are instructed to observe all of their senses while eating a lifesaver.
  2. They must write silently from the time they open the wrapper until the last bit of candy is dissolved.
  3. They are not allowed to bite the Lifesaver, only suck on it and continuously write about all that they are tasting, smelling, hearing, etc. until the candy is finally gone.
